I'm writing to you because my life changed after walking into your offices. My wife has been on me for years to have my hearing checked. She would get so frustrated because I didn’t hear her, and she would have to repeat what she said. I’d have the TV loud just so I could hear it. I would attend work meetings and never hear what the conversation was about. I mastered lipreading and body language, but I was missing life and work —

I made an appointment with the audiologist at this office to find out if hearing aids could be an option for me versus recommended surgery for otosclerosis. When making the appointment, the person I spoke with, Carolyn, was very accommodating with my busy schedule and also very knowledgeable about my insurance benefits.

Recently I decided to purchase hearing aids, even though I felt it was a premature decision. Dr. Dana Coveney tested me during the previous two years and advised me that my hearing loss, while not seriously significant, could be improved. My primary problem was that I was missing the sounds of a few consonants.
My career history involved working in geriatrics, so I was well familiar with hearing denial issues. That, in part, motivated me to bite the bullet to not find myself saying “what?” or faking understanding when someone whispered to me.
While I still pride myself with an early decision, I am pleased to have a greater improvement than I expected in my hearing.
One simple example is if I have the television on prior when I put my hearing aids on, I immediately have to turn down the volume.
I do not think of my hearing aids as a sign of aging any more than I think wearing glasses would be. I do think they represent a positive adjustment to life and not wanting to miss any of the pleasures the universe offers.

I met with two audiologists before contacting Dana Coveney. None of them remotely compare to her. First, her knowledge of which hearing aids are available greatly surpassed theirs. Second, her professional ability to help me select which manufacturer and model was perfect for me was far above the other audiologists I spoke with. The difference between them and her is like comparing a Ford to a Ferrari. In addition, she made time available for me when I needed her. The other specialists made me wait up to a week if I needed service. Also, I like the fact that she has only one patient in the office at a time, so that she can concentrate on them. I like no feedback when I touch a phone to my ear. With my new miniature hearing aids, I am living in a new world where tension no longer exists. I am more relaxed. I can hear conversation in restaurants and at cocktail parties without cupping a hand behind an ear. No more embarrassment. No one comments about my hearing aids because they cannot see them. Even if they could, I am now in control of myself. I am not conscious of wearing hearing aids. I cannot feel them at all. They are very easy to install and remove from the ears. I must remember them, however, whenever I shower or take a dip in the pool. I had the best experience today in your office.
